Westates
Truck Equipment Corporation was founded in 1956 as Westates
Truck Body Company by Ted Correll. The factory was established in
Redwood City, California in a modest facility, with dirt floors.
Initially,
Westates built many types of commercial truck bodies. Including
stake, utility and vans. In 1958 Westates began building fire service
bodies for the State of California Division of Forestry. This began
our journey into the fire service business.
In the
early 60’s Westates built its first Heavy Rescue for the City
of Palo Alto. Soon after, other products where added to the Westates
product line. As technology, materials and engineering allowed,
the sophistication and quality of our products continued to expand.
In 1969
Westates moved to a new facility located in Menlo Park, California
and again to Woodland, California in 1983. During this time Richard
Correll, son of Ted Correll, began taking on a more significant
roll within the firm. Richard contributed to the success of the
company by designing the first through the tank storage for ladders
and long tools.
In 1996 Westates took one of the most significant steps in its'
history by installing an industrial Laser cutting machine tool,
a CNC break press and 3-D solid modeling for engineering. This move
brought a level of sophistication and precision to the product,
previously unknown to the fire Apparatus manufacturing industry
.
With
these new tools in hand, 1997 saw the introduction of the break
through “Millennium Body”. This body took its cues from
the automotive industry by integrating the concepts of modular,
interchangeable body panels. Several hundred of these proven designs
have now been in the field for a number of years. Their track record
for performance, quality and serviceability is second to none.
The
“Millennium Body” design has matured and become one
of the most imitated products in the marketplace. |
